In His Timing…

After many months of planning, study, and fundraising, we descended from the clouds into a wet and flooded Haiti. For us it was a celebration, as many months have passed since we were in service. Our time back in the US was not wasted, or without its great moments, God had used that time to prepare us, bring others into purpose with us, and to move the spirit within us to enlarge our understanding of His word as well as His purpose. We are thankful to so many of you supported and contributed to our collective growth.

In late May, God planted the seed that led to the formation of our nonprofit organization. God knew exactly who He would band together to form our board, to create our mission, provide focus for our vision, and provide support. We are constantly amazed as God invites people into His purpose. What an adventure! You can glean more information and choose to partner with us at empoweringpartners.org

So… what is next? We have begun to interview candidates to eventually become our leaders of the Discipleship program. We were asked to lead the Experiencing God study and we are in agreement that it is well suited to lead Christians toward maturity in this community. We are excited to tell you that we will be translating the study into Kreyol, the native language. We have made contact with a group who may provide partial funding upon their acceptance of a sample translation. Also, we are determined to bring the instructional videos into Kreyol or Kreyol subtitles as well. This is exciting news that God chose this moment in this community filled with the darkness of Voodou to shed greater light on the lost! If you have participated in this study, you know there is a lot of homework. We will also be literally shedding light into each committed disciple’s home to provide for study time in the evening. Each disciple will receive a rechargeable LED light that provides 3-5 hours of light. For some of these homes this will be the first consistent source of light at night… a game changer! Our church, Crosspoint Church has provided some of the instructional materials, Empowering Partners is continuing to make provision of rechargeable lights, BibLa (bibles), financial support for Haitian leadership, and other discipleship materials. Many of you know that in Ayiti many claim to be a Christian, but often this means you are connected to a church, but the Voodou culture and practice are intertwined or a last resort when prayers are not met sufficiently unto ones needs. We expect adversity as we are told that the practice of Voodou has a strong presence here in community. Once said; “if you feed someone today they will be hungry again tomorrow; if their soul is saved today, they will be saved forever”. While this is true, we cannot forget that when Jesus saw the crowds, he saw that they were harassed and helpless and had compassion for them. If Christ lives in us, we cannot help but have the compassion of Christ as we see the condition of those we serve. As Christ showed us, we often must meet these needs first. God could have distributed wealth and privilege evenly the world over; but He chose not to. He gives us all the opportunity to give and receive love. That means He blesses some that they can experience the joy of generosity through serving others. However, if we become greedy, self-centered, and covet what God has blessed us with… it becomes a curse. Then what we withhold from those in need becomes a curse. Jesus told us to be on our guard because… “life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” Luke 12:15
